REPORTER INTERN

OZY, an ambitious, fast-paced, digital magazine based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is seeking candidates for its demanding, paid 8-10-week summer internship program.

Position: Reporter Intern

Who do we want? Aspiring journalists who want to learn how a fast-paced publication works. We’re looking for interns who want to be actively involved in the team and have what it takes to run with ideas and own them. Must-haves: willingness to take an active role on a collaborative team, interest in the future of digital media, enthusiasm and positivity. We want you to work hard and have fun doing it.


College students (juniors and graduating seniors), post-collegiate types, and reporters with professional experience please apply.

Day-to-day responsibilities: No one day at OZY is the same. Interns will support the staff in a variety of ways, including contributing reporting to major features and playing an active role in marketing. Interns will have the chance to pitch, research and write original stories as well. A number of other exciting opportunities come with being in a small newsroom: learning about the photo department, assisting on video projects, and becoming familiar with audience engagement, marketing and analytics.

PHOTO EDITING INTERN

Position: Photo Editing Intern

Are you interested in the world of photo editing? Ready to try something different in journalism? Meet OZY.At OZY we are responsible for illustrating stories from all over the world using a combination of wire imagery, illustration, freelance and magic.


Who do we want?At OZY, we are looking for a hardworking and creative intern with a background in journalism and photography. You should be highly motivated, detail oriented, with a keen eye for strong, surprising and thought provoking art to help our readers see more, be more and do more. You will work hard but receive the benefit of committed guidance and reviews from your managers and gain valuable insight into what photo editors at web based publications actually do. We’re looking for interns who want to be actively involved in the team and have what it takes to run with ideas and own them.


Must-haves:

  • Photoshop Experience

  • Extremely Professional

  • Strong visual literacy, communication and project management skills

  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, start-up environment

  • Broad cultural and current events knowledge

  • Students of visual communication/journalism preferred ( or similar work experience)

  • Interest in the future of digital media

  • References

  • A laptop

VIDEO INTERN

Position: Video Intern

Are you an ace Videographer? Ready to try something different in journalism? Meet OZY.

Who do we want?At OZY, we produce all kinds of video from mini-docs to interviews to short vignettes. We are looking for an enthusiastic, thorough, professional and creative intern to work with us. We want someone who is highly motivated and detail oriented, with a keen eye for strong, surprising and thought provoking video to help our readers see more, be more and do more. You will work hard but receive the benefit of committed guidance and reviews from your managers. We’re looking for interns who want to be actively involved in the team and have what it takes to run with ideas and own them.


Must-haves:

  • Extremely professional and committed

  • Strong visual literacy, communication and project management skills

  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, start-up environment

  • Broad cultural and current events knowledge

  • Adobe Premiere Pro or other editing software skills

  • Camera/Shooting/Directing experience preferred

  • Studies in visual arts or journalism preferred

  • Interest in the future of digital media

Day-to-day responsibilities: No one day at OZY is the same. Interns will work on numerous tasks assisting our video producers including research, web production, transcribing as well as editing and shooting. Interns will be able to serve as PA’s or second camera on numerous shoots in the field on a weekly basis. They will also occasionally string out rough edits and organize footage. They will be exposed to a wide variety of production skills and will be able to pitch stories and possibly contribute to the site as a video producer. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn video production for an editorial outfit from the ground up. A number of other exciting opportunities come with being in a small newsroom.

BUSINESS OPERATIONS INTERN


OZY, an ambitious, fast-paced, digital magazine based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is seeking candidates for its demanding, paid 8-10-week summer internship program.  


Position: Business Operations Intern

Who do we want? We are looking for candidates with an active interest and passion for news media. You should have basic familiarity with data analytics and statistical analysis with a strong working knowledge of MS Excel and Powerpoint. We want you to be passionate about delivering elite content, have a strong work ethic and be open to learning in a fast-paced, intense environment.


College students (juniors and graduating seniors), post-collegiate types, and reporters with professional experience please apply.

Day-to-day responsibilities: No one day at OZY is the same. Interns will support the staff in a variety of ways, including helping us manage sales and business operations by measuring and analyzing metrics related to operations, sales and web analytics; influencing sales and business strategy and partnerships; and coming up with new ways to take existing partnerships to the next level.


We think you should be able to:

  • Use data analytics tools to inform our process and product decisions as well as create impactful and easily readable internal reports

  • Develop creative and rigorous testing practices to assess performance and provide recommendations

  • Communicate with key stakeholders to help improve processes
